Start with the destinations
List where the photographs will appear: website banners, service pages, social posts, print materials or product listings. These destinations determine the framing and useful variations. A photograph that works in a square may not leave enough space for a wide website headline.
Choose the message for each image
Explain what the viewer should understand. A product image may need to show finish and scale; a service image may need to show people, process or environment. Turn these messages into a shot list with a clear priority order.
Prepare the products and location
Confirm which products, props, backgrounds and people are needed. Check packaging, labels and presentation before the session. Make sure the location is available and relevant permissions are arranged. Small preparation problems can use up time intended for photography.
Capture useful variations
Plan wide, medium and detail shots where appropriate. Include variations with space for text and versions suitable for different crops. Keep lighting and styling consistent across a set. Record any details that must remain accurate during editing, such as product colour or printed information.
Agree delivery and usage
Confirm file formats, dimensions, editing scope, delivery dates and usage rights before production. Keep a clear approval process and identify who can sign off on product accuracy. If people appear in the photographs, confirm the permissions required for the intended uses.
Make the assets easy to reuse
Use descriptive file names and organise the final library by product, service or campaign. Add useful alternative text when publishing informative images on a website. ANSTM plans commercial photography around the creative brief and the channels that will use the finished work.
